What is the Wisconsin Careers Connection (WC-Connection)?
The WC-Connection is a web-based tool that connects schools to businesses and businesses to schools. It links business information and employment opportunities to students and job seekers using the WISCareers website. It also creates a database of volunteers from your local businesses that can be used by teachers, counselors, and administrators to locate volunteers for educational activities.

What is the purpose of WC-Connection?
Link business information and employment opportunities to students and adults
The WC-Connection website makes information about local businesses/organizations available to thousands of youth and adults through the WISCareers website. Both websites were created and are maintained by Wisconsin Careers, located at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Wisconsin Careers serves thousands of students and adults annually. Therefore, it will provide information about your businesses/organizations to many potential employees. Wisconsin Careers website, WISCareers, includes comprehensive information on occupations and training institutions in Wisconsin and nationwide. It also offers extensive assistance with career development and planning, financial planning, and job seeking. A guest tour of the site is available at:

http://WISCareers.wisc.edu

WISCareers currently has more than 100,000 Wisconsin employers linked to occupations and industries. However, the data is limited and the relationship with occupations is based upon non-specific industrial codes. More precise information on employers will provide students and adults with a real life perspective on what will be expected of them in the workplace. Equally important, it will provide the appropriate links to businesses and their websites while they engage in career planning.

Link business people willing to do volunteer work to educators needing volunteers
The WC-Connection website also provides an easy mechanism to link business people that are willing to volunteer with teachers/school personnel that are seeking volunteers. The site will help organize and track all business-related, school-to-career activities in a local area. Volunteer activities currently included on the website are divided into following three areas:

What types of information will each business provide?
There are two types of information that each business will enter, general information and volunteer information. The general information will help potential employees understand their organization. This information includes a description of a business/organization, a list of occupations employed, special skills and qualities desired in employees, and links to company websites. It should take each business about 30 minutes to enter the requested information into the data entry form.

The volunteer information describes services or activities in which people in your local businesses are willing to participate for the benefit of schools or the community such as guest speaking, mentoring, tutoring, business site tours, youth apprenticeship, cooperative education, volunteer work experiences, job shadowing, service learning, and educator externships.

How will your information be used on the WISCareers Website?

Is your information secure? How will it be handled after you submit it?
When you login, you will establish a Username and Password that will be known only to you, Wisconsin Careers, and the cooperating organization. After you "submit" information, staff from the cooperating organization will preview it and contact you with suggestions, if any. Next, an editor from Wisconsin Careers will check it for punctuation, spelling, and grammar. If the editor has other concerns, you will be contacted via email. Once the editor has completed checking your work, you will be contacted to inform you that your information is available on the WISCareers Website.
